HistoryThe history of this frequency can be traced back to July 18, 1939, when Edwin H. Armstrong`s station W2XMN began regular broadcasting on a frequency of 42.8 Mhz. Armstrong, the father of FM radio, had actually begun testing the station on April 10, 1938, and had demonstrated FM transmission as early as 1934. The station, which also became known as W31NY and WFMN, moved to 43.1 Mhz in 1942. W2XMN moved to the new FM band in 1946, first at 92.1 Mhz, and then in 1948, to 93.1, where it became known as KE2XCC. It went off the air on March 6, 1954, soon after Armstrong`s death. WPAT broadcast on this frequency with an Easy Listening format from March 1, 1957, until the station`s sale to Spanish Broadcasting in January 1996.

History
This station originated with a construction permit issued to Bremer Broadcasting Corp. to operate on the old FM band at a frequency of 49.5 in January 1942. Bremer, however, did not put the station, WAAW, on the air until June 23, 1947, broadcasting on 101.9. The station became WAAT-FM later in 1947 and moved to 94.7 in 1948. It was sold to National Telefilm Associates in 1958, and the call letters were changed to WNTA-FM. Bergen Broadcasting purchased the station in 1961 and adopted the call letters WJRZ-FM in 1962. In 1966, the station was purchased by evangelist Harold Camping`s Family Stations, and the call letters WFME were adopted.
Comments
On October 16, 2012, Cumulus Media announced that it was purchasing WFME from Family Stations. The sale was completed on January 9, 2013, and Family Radio`s programming was discontinued on January 11, 2013. Pending the introduction of a new format, Cumulus began a simulcast of WPLJ using the call letters WRXP, which was legally adopted on January 14, 2013. A country music format debuted on January 21, 2013, and the call letters were again changed, to WNSH, on January 29, 2013.
