Janet Jackson Received An Icon Billboard Music Award

Janet Jackson Received An Icon Billboard  Music Award

Video by Entertainment Tonight

The beautiful Queen of Pop Icon Janet Jackson received an Icon Billboard Award on Sunday in Las Vegas. Superstar Jackson also performed during the TV award show — her first televised performance in nine years. It was a career-affirming moment for the 52-year-old star, who has racked up an extraordinary number of hits over her decades-long career. After being honored the Icon Award she performed her hit record from her Rhythm Nation album "Nasty." Janet was the first Afro-American women to win a Billboard Icon Award.

This legendary music artist was amongst the first artists of her era to ground herself in the mission of advocacy. Her words and dance numbers still speak volumes to those who pay attention. During her Billboard performance, for example, her dancers embodied all sizes and shapes, as well as races, gender, and sexual orientation. It was powerful if subtle, form of representation. Janet was always a prolific advocate for world directed issues such as racism, and gender equality has long been issued at the focus of Jackson’s activism.

After rocking the stage with her incredible performance, @JanetJackson accepts the 2018 Icon Award!
