In recent years, two major Afrobeats artists have faced significant backlash—particularly from African Americans—after making statements or taking actions that suggested they do not identify as Black, or that distanced themselves from Black identity in the diaspora.

1. Burna Boy: “Being African Is Different from Being Black”
