MTV Video Music Awards 2023 Downtown Newark, NJ

MTV Video Music Awards 2023 Downtown Newark, NJ

The MTV Music Video Award returned back to Prudential Center in Newark, NJ since the big Newark Water Coalition protest back in 2019.  The event showcased a diverse lineup of talented artists, ranging from pop icons to hip-hop legends and rock sensations. The return of the MTV Music Video Award to Newark not only brought thrilling performances but also highlighted the city's vibrant music scene and its ability to host such prestigious events.

Taylor Swift led the pack with a total of eight nominations, including artist of the year, video of the year and song of the year for her hit 2022 track “Anti-Hero.” She won all the categories in which she was nominated that were televised. BeyoncĂ©, Doja, Karol G, Minaj and Shakira joined Swift as artist of the year nominees, marking the first time since the category was introduced in 2017 that all artist of the year nominees are women. Shakira received the Video Vanguard Award. The night also welcomed brand new category Best Afrobeats. Demi Lovato, Shakira, Olivia Rodrigo, Cardi B with Megan Thee Stallion, Diddy, Lil Wayne, Doja Cat, and Fall Out Boy, among others, all performed during the ceremony. In addition to these performances, there were several memorable moments throughout the night. The performances were a mix of high-energy dance numbers, soulful ballads, and explosive collaborations, showcasing the incredible talent and diversity within the music industry. The audience was treated to unforgettable moments as these artists brought their unique styles and charisma to the stage, leaving everyone in awe.

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion brought their new single, “Bongos,” to the stage for the first time. It’s the first collaboration from the hip-hop superstars since their 2021 blockbuster, “WAP.”
The VMAs honored the 50th anniversary of hip-hop with a decade-sprawling mega-medley. Groundbreakers Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels, Doug E. Fresh, and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five performed, along with LL Cool J, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj. As part of the proceedings for his Global Icon Award, VMAs mainstay Diddy, who first played the ceremony in 1997, performed for the first time since hosting in 2005. Shoot out to Kisha Cole, Niki, Cardib and Megan, Lil Wayne, LL and Grandmaster Flash for a lovley performance. The most talked about red carpet fashion and reaction was Dojcat cobweb dress. Sukihana has never shied away from highlighting her anatomy or expressing her sexuality, doing just that on the 2023 MTV VMAs red carpet Tuesday (Sept. 12).

During the annual award ceremony, which took place in Newark, NJ, Suki caught backlash for an interesting pose, as she stretched out on the carpet with her bottom tooted to the camera. After the net caught wind of the photo, many began blaming the Love & Hip-Hop: Miami star for making “Black woman look bad.” However, the “Eating” rapper decided to clap back at critics on Wednesday (Sept. 13).

The public's outrage towards Sukihana's sexual behavior stemmed from the belief that it portrayed a negative image. Criticism from African American women specifically accused her of betraying the community by perpetuating harmful stereotypes. However, it is important to recognize that Sukihana's actions reflect her own personal choices and do not represent the entirety of black women. Unfortunately, her children may face consequences as a result of their mother's controversial behavior, highlighting the need for her to consider the potential impact on her family. Her salacious disposition that shows no respect for herself is sad.

The grandeur and spectacle of these award ceremonies often give them an almost ceremonial feel, as if they are elaborate high level rituals evil performed for the entertainment of millions. Viewers eagerly anticipate the performances and eagerly await the moment when their favorite stars take the stage to accept their well-deserved accolades.

It is important to separate a person's personal choices and actions from their accomplishments and achievements. Noneillah Entertainment believes in celebrating the talent and success of all individuals, regardless of their personal lives. Let us focus on the positive aspects of the VMA's and applaud the deserving winners for their hard work and dedication.
